AFFEW (A Few Friends for the Environment of the World) hosts an annual Earth Day event.

In 2021, events will have a different look with a series of virtual presentations as well as outdoor exploration hikes being offered. This year's theme is "Earth Day/ Restore Our Earth."

Outdoor Exploration Hikes
April 11-April 24: Earth Day Quiz Walk at Cartier Park, North Lakeshore Drive, Ludington. Participants will at their leisure walk about 1.40 miles following numbered signs placed along the Cartier Park pathway. The signs provide answers to specific questions that will increase awareness and appreciation for Cartier Park

Saturday, April 24 at 1pm & 2pm: Exploring Nature Close to Home
Maximum 10 people per hike (registration required) and masks and proper social distancing are mandatory. Learn about unique plants, trees, animals and birds close to town with local author and botanist Dave Dister. He’ll point out the variety of species found in the wetland, open field and hiking trails found behind Ludington United Methodist Church, 5810 Bryant Road, Ludington.

Saturday, May 1 at 1pm & 2:30pm: Ludington State Park Hikes
Maximum 25 per hike (registration required). Masks and proper social distancing are mandatory. Alan Wernette, Ludington State Park Interpreter, will lead both hikes.
- Forest and Wildlife Health and Management from 1-2pm. This hike will focus on plant diseases, invasive pests and deer herd issues.
- Water Levels of the Great Lakes from 2:30-3:30pm.Learn more about the iconic endangered Piping Plover bird and the changing weather patterns that have caused water level issues in our state.
